The Hyperfocal T-Shirt
A fun item this week.
In order to maximize your use of the available depth of field, you need to be familiar with the concept of hyperfocal focusing. Beyond being familiar with it though, you have to be able to apply it in the field which often requires either complex formulas or, more likely, a table by focal length and aperture on which you can look up needed answers. Enter the hyperfocal t-shirt.
Designed by Nikonians, the largest online community for Nikon photographers with over 22,000 members in 116 countries, the shirt features a hyperfocal table printed upside down so there wearer can read it. Pure genius. OK, it might not really be that practical to use in the field, but you certainly could. It definitely makes a great conversation piece or perhaps a gift for a fellow photographer. Anyone who has struggled through coming to terms with hyperfocal focusing should get at least get a chuckle out of it. I know I sure did.
If you are so inclined, they are available through Café Press in both feet and meters versions. Since the circle of confusion value changes between standard 35mm format and Nikon's DX digital sensor format (and similar sized sensors from other brands), you can choose your preference for this as well.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am a charter member of Nikonians, but definitely don't get any compensation out of their t-shirt sales. I just think the idea is clever enough to warrant mentioning. I hope you agree.
